Sergio Turull, Known as Pitufollow, Wins Inaugural 100 Ultra in the Sahara Desert
Sergio Turull, known on social media as Pitufollow, achieved victory yesterday in the inaugural edition of a competition bearing the hallmark of the Marathon des Sables: the 100 Ultra in the Sahara Desert. The Catalan ultrarunner was the first to cross the finish line after 7 hours and 55 minutes of effort. Sergio completed the 100 kilometers at a pace of 7:09/km in a race that accumulated 1,059 meters of elevation gain.
Pitufollow shared his experience on social media as follows: "From the start, I set out to run my own race, and by kilometer 2, we were already in the dunes. It was a warning of everything that was to come: a tough, uncomfortable terrain, the kind that wears you down step by step. From kilometer 40 onward, I was completely alone at the front. I ran the remaining 60 km without seeing a single runner. At times, feeling very small in the midst of the vastness. The only thing I could hear was the sound of my footsteps on the sand. It's quite an experience. That's where the real race began. When no one is watching you. When no one is cheering you on. When everything hurts. And when all that's left is to demand more from yourself, control your mind, and keep moving forward until the finish line... and we did it🙏🏼 Living the first edition of the @marathondessables Ultra from the inside (and winning it) has been a true privilege. I will never forget it."
Sergio was the protagonist of a major challenge this summer by running 50 km in 50 Spanish provinces over 50 consecutive days.
