The fleet of iQFoil Men boards in action with the strong wind that blew this Monday in the bay of Palma
Twenty knots of wind, scrambled sea and intense cold. The first day of the Princess Sofia Trophy of Olympic classes was met with a harsh scenario in the bay of Palma. Five of the ten classes that take part in the tournament went out on the water and the more than five hundred boats and boards that faced these demanding conditions fully confirmed that Olympic sailing wants to become a fun and spectacular sport for all types of spectators ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On this first day, the ILCA 6, ILCA 7, 470 Mixed, iQFoil men and iQFoil women classes participated. The latter, iQFoil, is the new Olympic windsurf and these are boards equipped with an orza with foils that raises them above the water allowing sailors to reach speeds of up to 30 knots.
The men, who came out first, were able to complete four magas, while the women made three. In iQFoil Men you could see the great dominance of the British Samuel Sills, who won three of the four tests and made an offline in the other, a penalty that he could rule out. The Galician Tomás Vieito occupies a meritorious fifth place after adding 2-8-2-2 in the four rounds.

The Sevillian Pilar Lamadrid honors her second position in the world ranking of the iQFoil Women class
In iQFoil Women the announced duel between the current world champion, the French Hélène Noesmoen (17-2-2-1) and the second of the world ranking, the Sevillian Pilar Lamadrid (1-1-14-4) was confirmed. The duel between them does not hide the great regularity of the Israeli Shachar Reshef, who always remained among the first: 3-3-1-3.
The 470 Mixto is another of the outstanding novelties in this edition of the Princesa SofÃa. The class, divided into male and female until the Tokyo 2020 Games, has become mixed and that has led to a radical change that now opens in the bay of Palma.
The Spanish team formed by Barcelona's Jordi Xammar (bronze in 470 in Tokyo) and Nora Brugman opened the day with a victory, ahead of the Italian boat of Giacomo Ferrari and Blanca Caruso. Then, in the second round, the positions were reversed.

The male category ILCA 7 and the female ILCA 6 bring together a total of 231 boats in the bay of Palma and among them, especially among men, are the best specialists in the world. The Cypriot Pavlos Kontides, silver in London 2012, is the leader after this first day to prevail in the two rounds played.
In the women's category, in which there are 66 registered, the only disputed test was won by the Hungarian Mária Érdi, followed by the Dutch Maxime Jonker and the Canadian Sarah Douglas.

On Tuesday, the ten Olympic classes participating in this 51st edition of the Princess Sofia Trophy will sail, organized by the Club Nà utic S ́Arenal, the San Antonio de la Playa Nautical Club, the Real Club Náutico de Palma, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Balearic Sailing Federation and World Sailing (the international federation), with the support of the main Balearic public institutions.
