Elvis, the long-awaited biopic by Australian director, screenwriter and producer Baz Luhrmann about the King of Rock will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, which will celebrate its 75th edition between May 17 and 28.
The film, starring young Austin Butler, explores Presley's life and music through his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks.
The story unfolds over 20 years, from the Rise to Fame of the American Singer and Songwriter to his unprecedented star status. That tour includes one of the most important and influential people in his life, his wife and mother of his daughter, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

Butler plays the king of Rock
Both Luhrmann and the three main actors will attend Cannes, although at the moment the day of the screening is unknown. Elvis will hit theaters in the United States on June 24 and in the rest of the world on June 22.
Luhrmann, 59, is the only director in the festival's history to have presented two of his films at the opening of the competition: Moulin Rouge in competition in 2001, and The Great Gatsby out of competition in 2013. The Australian presented in 1992 his debut film, Love is in the air, in the section A Certain Look.

Tom Cruise in 'Top Gun: Maverick'
The prestigious event will present the titles of its official section on April 14. At the moment only the premiere of 'Top Gun: Maverick' has also been announced, the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster Top Gun of 1986, starring again tom Cruise, who will receive a tribute to his career.
