The Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua internationalizes the figure of Joan Fuster

The Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (AVL) wants to take advantage of the celebration of L'Any Fuster -on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the writer- to make his work and figure known beyond the linguistic borders of Valencian.

After declaring Fuster Writer of the Year 2022, the AVL has prepared an endless number of activities and initiatives, including several projects to translate some of his works into Spanish, English and even Russian, as a Russian publisher is being sought to publish a translation of the work Diccionari per a ociosos.

In this line, the Academy aims to "vindicate and share the most complete writer who has given our literature" -in the words of the academic Àngels Gregori- at the Buenos Aires book fair (where his work will be presented in Spanish) in Frankfurt (in English and German) or in a conference at the New York University.

Internationalization

Fuster's works will be translated into Spanish, English and Russian and his work will be disseminated in Madrid and abroad

The still president of the AVL, Ramón Ferrer, -on Thursday Verónica Cantó will take over– has advanced that the calendar is closing to also make presentations in Paris and London with the idea of "incardinating the character in a Europe where he is not so well known". In this line, Palomero has highlighted the importance of "favoring translations" so that Fuster reaches "other cultures". "If it is not translated, it is not known," he explained.

In this attempt to universalize the figure of the writer of Sueca, those responsible for the commission in charge of organizing the anniversary have highlighted the celebration in Madrid of La Noche de los Libros or the fact that, according to the invitation of the director of the Cervantes Institute, Fuster will be the first writer in Valencian to deposit part of his legacy in the Caja de las Letras of the headquarters of the renowned institution cultural.

These initiatives will be accompanied by endless activities, such as 14 conferences that will be given in the Valencian Community, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands; a cycle of conversations to understand the polyhedral figure of the writer; or a training session to teach teachers how to transmit Fuster to their students.

The complete program of activities is completed with a traveling exhibition by the municipalities and educational centers that request it, with the publication of a comic about the writer and a didactic notebook for Secondary and Baccalaureate. As the academic Carme Manuel has pointed out, "the future of Fuster is in the hands of young people and children", as well as "the teaching staff".

Likewise, there are more groundbreaking proposals such as the idea of putting in 2,000 envelopes of sugar aphorisms of the writer or printing 1,000 merchandising t-shirts with two of the author's sharp phrases: "Un bon llibre sempre és una provocació [Un buen libro siempre es una provocación]" and "Dir 'bon dia' ja és fer literatura [Decir ‘bon dia’ya es hacer literatura]".

The idea is to close the commemoration with a great act at the Teatre Principal de València with writers, musicians and artists on November 23, coinciding with the day of Fuster's birth.
