The Advanced Factories congress has closed its sixth edition with 20,654 attendees, a record figure to date. The event, held at the Barcelona International Convention Centre, has brought together professionals from different countries to discover the latest solutions in industrial automation, robotics and artificial intelligence. The event has had 351 exhibiting firms and 295 international experts at the Industry 4.0 Congress. Overall, the economic impact of Advanced Factories for the city has been 43 million euros.
Advanced Factories has unveiled the latest innovations in industrial automation systems, robotics, additive manufacturing, software, production integration systems, artificial intelligence, digital twin, artificial vision, data analytics, IIoT, 5G or cybersecurity. In this edition, the event has highlighted the need to promote a local industry, more competitive and sustainable, with large innovation centers in Europe.
"Europe has understood that we need to rethink the supply chain. Relocating our industry is an unavoidable requirement to supply with a lower environmental impact, and the key to achieving this is through advanced, automated and robotic factories, "explained Albert Planas, CEO of Advanced Factories.
6G has also been a topic of conversation during the congress. This technology will mark the coming years, and companies like Huawei, in China, are already working with this new generation of connectivity. "In Europe there is a slow deployment of 5G coverage due to standardization problems, a very expensive network infrastructure, and the difficulty in justifying this investment," says Joan L. Mas, director of the digital area of Eurecat. So while in China there is already talk of 6G, in Europe 5G is still in its infancy.
