Beatriz Álvarez Mesa, current General Director of Sports of the Principality of Asturias, has run this Tuesday as the fourth pre-candidate to preside over the new Women's Professional Football League and could be the favorite and even the only official candidate thanks to the support of 12 of the 16 clubs of the First Iberdrola.
The pre-candidates need to receive the endorsement of at least four clubs to be candidates, so the ovetense could only have one rival if the support of 12 teams is confirmed, most of them integrated into the Association of Women's Football Clubs (ACFF), where there are no historical entities such as Barça and Athletic, in addition to Real Madrid. Clubs can only support one candidate.
The endorsement of four clubs is needed to be a candidate for the presidency
The other two confirmed candidates are Maria Teixidor and Ainhoa Tirapu, to which according to Mundo Deportivo could be added Marta Plana, who however has not made her position official. If the endorsements of four teams are obtained, the support of nine clubs would be necessary to become the first president of the Women's Professional League.
Alvarez, 39, has a great knowledge of women's football. Her life has been linked to the old Oviedo Moderno, where she began her career as a player in the lower categories, at the age of 12, and ended up playing with the first team in 2000. He retired prematurely at the age of 22 and has since added experience in sports management.

Maria Teixidor, pre-candidate for the elections to the presidency of the Professional Women's League.
She was coach of the Asturian club in the 2006-07 season and later held positions on the board until finally being the president between 2009 and 2018. At the end of its mandate the club was integrated into the historic Real Oviedo and currently the team competes in the Second Division of women's football, where it occupies the eighth place in the north division.
