ChatGPT is the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot everyone is talking about. It is a chat system based on the GPT-3 language model and capable of writing essays, solving mathematical problems, creating games or writing software programming codes. Its enormous benefits have not gone unnoticed by users, but neither by the technological giants, which have not been slow to launch similar projects or assess integration into their systems.
Microsoft is reportedly preparing to add OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot to its Bing search engine, according to The Information, citing two people with direct knowledge of the US multinational's plans. The technology believes that it is a way to stand up to its direct competitor and search engine par excellence: Google. It is not the only means that points to that possibility. Company sources have also confirmed to Bloomberg that they are considering such a scenario.
According to this media, it is expected to be implemented in the coming months, although the deadlines could vary. Microsoft is weighing what the role of this chatbot has to be in its search engine. It is also assessing its accuracy and performance. In any case, the initial launch would be a limited test for a small group of people, according to knowledgeable sources.
The integration of ChatGPT into Bing (Microsoft's search engine) is not a surprise. The Redmond-based company has already repeatedly expressed interest in incorporating OpenAI's imaging software, DALL-E 2.
It's not the only time he's shown interest in the AI company. In 2019, Microsoft backed the company founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman, among others, by offering a billion dollars in funding. In fact, the two tech companies had formed a multi-year partnership to develop AI supercomputing technologies on Microsoft's Azure cloud computing service.
