Stanford's women's soccer team is mourning the loss of one of its players, Katie Meyer.

The university announced on Wednesday that the 22 year old star goalkeeper and team captain had passed away at a campus residence.

A cause of death was not released. Stanford's athletic director shared in a statement

There are no words to express the deep sadness we feel about Katie Meyer's passing. Katie Meyer was an outstanding student athlete and a beloved, passionate leader here at Stanford.

Our entire athletics community is heartbroken and Katie will be deeply missed. Her team also shared a message of their own, simply posting these words on Instagram. We love you, Katie.
