The goalkeeper of Ajax and the Cameroon national team, André Onana, was uninjured in a serious car accident on Tuesday while traveling to the concentration of the African team before the decisive tie against Algeria for a place in the World Cup in Qatar, the federation reported. The accident occurred while the former Barça youth squad was traveling from the capital of Cameroon, Yaoundé, to the city of Douala. Cameroon hosts Algeria in Douala on Friday in the first leg of the World Cup playoffs. The second leg on Algerian soil is next Tuesday and the winner of the tie will be one of the five African teams that will secure a place in Qatar between November and December this year.

The national broadcaster CRTV published images of what it said was the scene of the accident. They showed a Range Rover SUV and another vehicle with its front end crushed after what appeared to be a head-on collision. It is not clear if Onana, 25, was driving or was one of the passengers in one of the vehicles.
